According to the the teenage sensation is on the verge of doubling his weekly salary at Old Trafford without signing a new contract. The 18-year-old midfielder, who joined the club at the age of nine, currently earns £10,000 per week, but a clause in his contract stipulates a significant 100% pay rise once he establishes himself as one of the regulars in the first team.

The Stockport-born midfielder received sumptuous acclaim on his full Premier League debut in a 3-0 victory over Everton and further contributed as a second-half substitute in the midweek 3-3 draw against Galatasaray in the Champions League. Although the Red Devils have squeezed the salaries for their academy graduates, Mainoo's brilliance has forced them to hand over a pay rise.

Mainoo was again handed a start by Ten Hag against Newcastle United at St. James' Park on Saturday and the youngster was one of the better performers – much more so than his team-mates. However, he was taken off in the 80th minute as Ten Hag wanted fresh legs on the pitch before throwing the kitchen sink at the Magpies in search of an equaliser he never found.
